Mercedes S500

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is a series of the largest sedans produced by Mercedes-Benz, a division of Daimler AG. The S-Class, a product of nine lines of Mercedes-Benz models dating since the mid-1950s, is the world’s best-selling luxury flagship sedan.

As the foremost model in the Mercedes-Benz lineup, the S-Class has debuted many of the company’s latest innovations, including drivetrain technologies, interior features, and safety systems (such as the first airbag supplemental restraint systems, seatbelt pretensioners, and electronic stability program). The latest generation, the W221 S-Class, premiered in 2006 as an all-new design.

As in previous iterations, the latest S-Class is sold in standard and long wheelbase versions and offers V6, V8, V12, and diesel powertrains. The name “S-Class” derives from the German word “Sonderklasse” of which “S-Class” is an abbreviation. Sonderklasse means “special class” (or rather: “In a class of its own”), and in automotive terms thus refers to “a specially outfitted car.”

Although used colloquially for decades, the “S-Class” designation was first officially applied in 1973 with the debut of the W116 model line. Since then, five generations of officially-named S-Class sedans have been produced.Past two-door coupe models of the S-Class were known as SEC and later S-Coupe.

In 1998 they were spun off in a separate line as the CL-Class, however it will be re-designated as the S-Coupe when launching the mid-generational facelift/refresh of the C216 later in 2009 as a 2010 model.

Mercedes E240

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a range of executive-size cars manufactured by Mercedes-Benz in various engine and body configurations. The E initially stood for Einspritzung, (German for fuel injection); a new feature in volume production vehicles at the time that the E-Class first appeared, with the E as a suffix to the engine nomenclature (e.g. 220E) in the 1950s. It was not until the launch of the facelifted W124 that the E was used as a prefix (i.e. E220) and the model referred to officially as the E-Class (or E-Klasse).

Due to the E-Class’ size and durability, the cars also frequently serve as taxis in European countries, and Mercedes-Benz offers a taxi specification as well as other special-purpose vehicles (e.g. police or ambulance modifications) from the factory.

Competitors to the E-Class include the BMW 5 Series, Lexus GS, Volvo S80, Cadillac CTS, and the Audi A6.

Audi Q3

The Audi Q3 is a late arrival to the compact SUV party, as the BMW X1, Ford Kuga and Volkswagen Tiguan are all established choices in the small 4×4 market. It has been worth the wait, though, as the Audi Q3 has a combination of luxurious interior quality, compact proportions and capable engines, making it a strong contender for class honours.

The proven quattro drivetrain takes care of rough terrain and the entry-level front-wheel-drive model is perfect for buyers who want low running costs rather than ultimate off-road ability.

SUV Range Rover Evoque 2012

The Land Rover LRX concept vehicle was the most compact Land Rover to date. Its size complemented a wide array of efficiency improving technologies in the form of Land Rover’s e_Terrain technologies.

These included biofuel compatibility, lightweight construction materials and technologies such as the removable carbon composite roof panels, regenerative brakes, a stop-start system, and the ERAD (electric rear axle drive) parallel hybrid powertrain system.

ERAD encompasses the incorporation of an electric motor into the rear axle of the vehicle. It would propel the LRX to speeds of up to 20 mph (32 km/h) before the engine was started by an integrated starter generator as part of the stop-start system.

ERAD was designed to reduce CO2 emissions by an average of 20 percent under the NEDC test cycle and was expected to offer another 10 percent reduction in extra-urban driving situations. The system was designed to also optimise the off-road ability of the vehicle.

Land Rover aimed to achieve 120 g/km CO2 emissions and fuel economy of 60 mpg-imp (4.7 L/100 km; 50 mpg-US) on the European combined cycle with an efficient 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine. The engine would become the only four-cylinder vehicle in the Range Rover lineup.

The LRX also boasted the latest incarnation of Land Rover’s acclaimed Terrain Response system offering a range of new and existing modes. These included general driving; grass/gravel/snow; sand; and new to the LRX are sports and eco modes.

Typical Land Rover design traits designed to improve off-road performance and practicality included the command driving position, hill descent control and good approach and departure angles. A Land Rover first was the air intake being integrated into the roof to offer exceptional wading capabilities.

Land Rover’s Range Rover DNA was visually apparent in the form of the clamshell bonnet, the ‘floating’ roof, the dual-pocket headlamps, and, borrowed from the Range Rover Sport, the raked roofline.

Porsche Panamera

The Porsche Panamera (Type number 970) is a four-door, four-seat luxury saloon/sedan, which was launched in 2009. It is front-engined with rear-wheel drive, with a four-wheel drive version also available.

The Panamera is generally considered to be the long-awaited fruit of Porsche’s 989 concept from the late 1980s; some argue that it also presents itself as a successor to the two-door 928, but there may be plans to develop a new 928 as well.

The Porsche Panamera and Panamera S are marketed as a direct competitor to full-size luxury cars such as the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The high performance Panamera Turbo competes in the ultra-luxury segment alongside “exotics” such as the Bentley Continental Flying Spur, Aston Martin Rapide, and Maserati Quattroporte.

Like the Porsche Cayenne SUV, the Panamera upset many Porsche enthusiasts, since it was seen as an attempt to broaden Porsche’s appeal beyond that of hardcore fans. The Panamera ran contrary to the company’s signature offerings, particularly its light two-door rear-engine sports cars like the 911.

The iconic Porsche had a sparse interior, as it was focused on raw performance. The Panamera on the other hand is considered a full-size luxury sedan, weighing at nearly 4,000 pounds, with four doors, and its V8 engine mounted in the front. It also has a sumptuous interior loaded with modern technological amenity and expensive leather upholstery.

The Panamera’s long hood and bulbous rear hatch bares little resemblance to a stretched 911. Despite the differences in dimensions and design, a reviewer noted that the Panamera’s driving dynamics were close to that of the 911, and it “seems to occupy the no-man’s-land between really good sports sedans and proper sports cars”.

At Vietnam Car Hire we don’t have any Porche Panamera for rental.

BMV 750Li

Among mass market automakers, very few brands offer flagship sedans designed to be the epitome of luxury and performance. Lexus has its LS, Mercedes-Benz its S-class, and BMW the 7-series.

The latest incarnation of the latter is the all-new 2009 BMW 750Li. Signifying a major update, this 750Li starts a new internal body designation series, going from the previous E66 to F02 for this 2009 model.

As Lexus and Mercedes-Benz do with their flagships, BMW pours all of its technology into the 750Li. Because its competitors haven’t been updated in a few years, the 750Li gets to trump them with new tech features such as night vision with pedestrian recognition, dynamic traffic avoidance, lane departure warning, a head-up display, and a navigation system with topographic maps.

At Vietnam Car Hire we have a limited number of BMV 750Li to rent out for business trips and special events. Please contact us for availability.
