Tran Yen is a mountainous district of Yen Bai province in northwest Vietnam. The district covers an area of 691 square kilometres. There are road, railway and waterway transport systems very convenient for travel and exchange of goods between localities inside and outside the district. Van Phu, Co Phuc and Ngoi Hop stations of the Hanoi – Lao Cai – Kunming railway line are located in this district.
