Phu Bai Airport

Hue Airport or Phu Bai Airport (HUI) is one of the main ports for the central part of Vietnam, alongside with Da Nang and Cam Ranh International Airports.

The airport is about 15 km from Hue city and takes about half an hour to get from the airport to downtown Hue. Phu Bai airport was formerly used by the French and the Americans as air force base, but it has been transformed to serve civilization purpose since 1975. Due to its small size, this airport is able to receive only medium-sized planes but in the future, large airplanes can land on its runways.

Phu Bai Airport officially welcomed its first international flight since it was allowed to receive international flights by Vietnamese government in 2002. The charter flight operated by Austrian Airlines carried Austrian tourists from Luang Prabang, Laos.
