Buon Ma Thuot Airport is located in Dak Lak Province, 8km from the province’s capital Buon Ma Thuot. It is bordered by Hoa Thang Commune, Buon Ma Thuot City, Hoa Dong Commune, KrongPac District, Dak Lak Province.
Buon Ma Thuot Airport plays an important role in transportation system in Dak Lak Province as well as the Highland Region of Vietnam.
Buon Ma Thuot Airport was built by the French in 1950. It was upgraded in 1950 by the South Vietnam and put in to operation in 1970 as an air base. At this time, the airport had 01 asphalt runway 1,800x15m; 01 asphalt taxiway 209m x 15m and asphalt apron 128m x 120m. After the war, in October 3rd 1977, new routes were opened namely Buon Ma Thuot – Ha Noi – Da Nang – Ho Chi Minh City.
