Ca Mau Airport

Ca Mau Airport is located at the eastern Ca Mau City, 2 kilometers away from the center of Ca Mau City and parallel with Highway 1A. The airport is bounded by rice field, ponds, lakes in the east and in the north, population area of the city in the south.

Moranc airfield (presently Ca Mau Airport) was built by the French Colony at Quan Long Town, An Xuyen province (presently Ca Mau city) with single runway of 400 meters in length and 16 meters in width.

In June, 1962, Moranc Airfield was re-designed as level-G airport, covering of 91.61 hectares, with a runway of 1,050 meters in length and 30 meters in width. Apron spread out 60 meters x 120 meters, after that Moranc Airfield was renamed as Quan Long Airfield, primarily served for military purpose and helicopters, L19, OV10, Dakota, C130 and other types of aircraft. In dry season 1972, runway and apron were built by bituminous concrete.

On 30 April, 1975, Ca Mau Airport was handed over to Vietnam Military. From 1976 to the middle of 1978, the airport did not serve for civil operation, just for military flights, charter flights or leaders of the Communist Party and Government.

At present, the routes Ho Chi Minh City – Ca Mau and Ca Mau – Ho Chi Minh City are operated with frequency of 7 flights/week, from Monday to Sunday weekly.

Ca Mau Airport is able to accommodate ATR-72, AN-2, MIA-17, KINGAIR B200 and similar types of aircraft.

The operation of Ca Mau airport has reached the air transportation demands for Ca Mau province and Bac Lieu province, especially foreign visitors, investors, specialists working at Ca Mau Gas-Power-Fertilizer Complex, actively contribute to the national defense of the South pole of Vietnam.
